Paper Abstract:      PC-based control system has emerged as a popular control system now-a-days. In addition web-based device monitoring and control are getting popularities, in other words these can be called as Internet Appliances (Lowber,2000). Ability to monitor and control a remote system is very useful because it can reduce operating cost, time and manpower. Web-based Device Monitoring and Control System is an integration of the Internet, a local area network and the PC-based control system. This remote control system is an integration of three sub-systems, i.e. computer-based control system, local area network and the Internet. This integration is achieved by developing three separate programs; Java applet, server program and host program. A controlled device is connected via serial communication port (“production counter”) of a host computer, which is written using Visual Basic. The host computer is consists of a special purpose Java based web server, is acting as the gateway between local computer and any remote computers. For portable use, the web server also can be installed with a Java applet that can be loaded into any remote computers.
