Paper Abstract:      The Mobile Learning NETwork (MoLeNET) is now in its third phase, having received a total of £16m from both the Learning and Skills Council (www.lsc.gov.uk) and from participating further education/sixth form colleges, secondary schools and specialist colleges, during 2007-2010. This has afforded the opportunity for LSN to support the implementation and embedding of mobile learning in participating English educational institutions. The support function includes project management and technical support and mentoring, research and evaluation. Projects involved in the MoLeNET programme have utilised a range of mobile technologies, including games devices, to support teaching and learning across a variety of contexts. This paper explores the benefits of game-based learning and the ways in which MoLeNET projects have exploited the potential of mobile game-based technologies. It also takes a look at how MoLeNET projects have supported numeracy and literacy learners through the use of the Nintendo DS games device.
