Paper Abstract:      This study proposes to examine underlying mechanisms and processes that mediate peer learning, moral training and skill building in computer-mediated after-school activity that is facilitated by mobile dynamic virtual environment as pedagogical vehicle. Previous research efforts have reported exhilarating results on effects of youth development in organized after-school activities on positive outcomes. But, little is known about computer-mediated after-school activity and underlying mechanisms and processes between activity involvement and desired outcomes. For example in addressing the issue of causal attribution, it is important to know whether youths involved in computer-mediated after-school activity combining peer learning, moral training and skill building would be less involved in negative behaviors than their non-involved peers. It would be prudent also to know whether interventions will continually show positive outcomes after initial positive effects. The methodology of this study is based on pattern language for virtual environments, two-layered model of peer influences on learning, dialogical approach to skill building and statistical techniques.
