Paper Abstract:
|
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are at the core of economic growth, innovation, and job creation. Representing over 90% of businesses globally, SMEs play a vital role in both developed and developing economies, contributing significantly to GDP and employment. Their agility and adaptability allow them to respond quickly to market changes, seize opportunities, and introduce groundbreaking innovations that strengthen economic resilience and promote diversification. This paper delves into the entrepreneurial dynamics within SMEs using a systematic review of literature and real-world case studies. It focuses on how innovation acts as a competitive edge while examining the major challenges SMEs face, such as limited access to finance, regulatory hurdles, and the skills gap. The findings underscore the transformative role of digital technologieslike e-commerce and cloud computingin helping SMEs optimize operations, engage with customers, and access broader markets without heavy investment. However, despite their immense potential, SMEs often struggle to grow due to financial barriers, complex regulations, and a lack of professional development opportunities. This paper highlights the importance of creating a supportive environment for SMEs through improved access to financing, simplified regulatory frameworks, and targeted skill-building programs. By addressing these barriers, SMEs can continue to drive sustainable growth, foster innovation, and create lasting economic prosperity. |
