Paper Abstract:      This study aims at conducting and documenting a complete Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) process for inducing predictive models in order to investigate new hypotheses about the causes of dental diseases such as periodontal and dental caries. We analyze data concerning the dental records of 598 low-income patients, treated by the Brazilian Unified Health System (UHS) in a collaboration work with Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Predictive models induced suggest there is a genetic origin in the incidence of new cases of periodontal disease, as well as a possible influence of hypertension and high-cholesterol diseases in the incidence of new caries cases.
