Paper Abstract:      The human hand is a sophisticated biomechanical system responsible for everyday interactions with the surrounding environment. Like in real life, the hand is considered the primary manipulating mechanism in virtual reality (VR). VR is a computer-generated environment that makes users feel like they act in the real world. This effect, described as immersion, is reached using VR equipment, which usually includes a head-mounted device (HMD) with near-eye displays employing stereoscopy and a mechanism to track the user's position and motions. The degree of immersion and presence are among the main characteristics describing a virtual environment (VE). One way to improve these characteristics is by enabling natural user interactions, made possible by using the user's hands as the main body component for interactions. Prior research indicates that higher immersion and realism in VR systems are still to reach a satisfactory level. This paper aims to increase immersion and presence in VEs, proposing a method for high-fidelity 3D hand models to simulate hand gestures as they appear in real life.
