Paper Abstract:      This paper presents a vibrotactile space mouse using pin-type vibrotactile display modules and a gyroscope chip. This mouse is an ordinary mouse which could be used in the air as an input device, and at the same time, it is a 2 by 3 arrayed vibrotactile display which could be used as an output device to transfer some tactile information. A gyroscope chip was used to implement the space mouse and several vibrotactile display modules, which were made in our own laboratory recently, were used to implement a 2 by 3 tactile display array. Vibrotactile space mouse recognizes motion of a user’s hand using the gyroscope and transmits the data to PC through the Bluetooth. PC application program receives the data and moves the mouse pointer on a screen. Also a 2 by 3 array of pin-type vibrotactile actuators is mounted on the front side of the mouse where fingers of the user contact. And those actuators could be used to transfer information such as gray-scale of an image or Braille patterns for visually impaired person.
