Paper Abstract:
|
All tasks in project management will continue to gain in importance, while the supply and demand for certifications in
project management is large and increasing. This raises the question of value and benefits of certifications in project
management. More than 3,600 IPMA-certified project management professionals in Germany were surveyed on this matter.
They were asked about what motivations they had in having a certificate in project management. These motivations are
compared with the value and benefits that are actually perceived by them years later. As a result, the motivations "personal
challenge", "skill improvement", and "professional progress" make significant contributions to the motivation to seek
certification. Overall, the participants attach considerable value to their certificates and consider their commitment and
effort for certification to be worthwhile. More than 80% of the participants recommend to colleagues to obtain a certificate. |
