Paper Abstract:      Diverse search engines facilitate the access to the information available in the Web. However, there is a large amount of information that is not accessible through these engines: the “Invisible Web” or “Deep Web”. For the society to take advantage of these vast available resources, it is important that efficient models for searching the Web are established and made available for wide use. In this context, a model based mobile agents, adequate for searching for multimedia materials accessible through a network, is presented in this article. The model has been designed having in mind that it should be open, distributed, modular and platform independent. To corroborate the proposed model, an experimental prototype has been implemented, capable of searching heterogeneous databases accessible in the Web.
