Paper Abstract:      The paper describes a student project for authentic learning using mobile technologies. Students used GPS and GIS to collect data and implemented a web-based clinic lookup system. This project had positive effects on students’ attitudes toward software design. The experiences of field investigation and seminar components of this project supplemented the technological tasks with conceptual discussion of information management and their socially constructed and contested natures.
