Paper Abstract:      In mobile commerce, a global and interoperable mobile payment solution is still missing. Simpay, an initiative by the four largest European mobile operators, aims to become just that. This study measures Simpay against known success factors in m-payments to discover whether it is likely to succeed when it is released next year. This paper also points out what needs to be improved or changed so that Simpay can be accepted by consumers. The focus is on the user’s perception of the system since the user is seen as the key to acceptance of any new solution. Simpay’s features from the user’s point of view are analysed. Those features are then discussed in terms of their positive or negative influence on the likeliness of Simpay’s success. The system’s strengths and weaknesses are thus identified. Some challenges that need to be overcome before the new system becomes successful are also presented. Such an analysis can be used as an example on how to measure strengths and weaknesses of any other mobile payment system.
