Paper Abstract:      Given the growing use and complexity of databases, a fine data retrieval is necessary. Current databases languages rely on rigid linguistic rules based on hard links among data. In this work, LSA (Latent Semantic Analysis), a deeply investigated method for intelligent information retrieval of unstructured data, is applied to structured data in databases. This paper introduces a data retrieval approach based on subsymbolic and algebraic techniques, that uses also soft relationships among data to retrieve not only results obtained by a traditional SQL query but also results semantically similar to them: in this sense, it opens a way toward a semantic SQL. A first step toward the extension on distributed data on peer to peer network is also introduced.
