Paper Abstract:      Interface micro animations are increasingly used to enhance the user experience on websites. While the positive effects of well-crafted static visual design on user perceptions are well-documented, there is limited research on how these perceptions are influenced by the use of micro animations. This study adopts an experimental design to investigate the impact of interface micro animations on users' perceptions of design quality and their trust in the organization behind the website. Participants were randomly assigned to view one of two versions of an identical hypothetical nonprofit organization website: one version included interface micro animations, while the other did not. An online questionnaire assessed participants' perceptions of website design quality, the distraction caused by micro animations, and trust in the organization. Regression analyses of data from 91 qualified participants revealed that the effect of interface micro animations on perceived design quality was moderated by the perceived animation distraction. Additionally, perceived design quality was found to be a significant predictor of trust in the organization. Implications for designers are discussed.
