Paper Abstract:
|
In this article we present an evaluation of the construction behind a newly created old Linux compute cluster based on a new casing idea with modern software running on old hardware. There are three main goals behind the construction. The first is to experimentally determine if a hanging construction is a valid option for real world computer clusters. The second adjective is to empirically evaluate if it is possible to use advanced state of the art SSI-operating systems on older hardware, i.e. is the overhead too high. And the last adjective behind the construction was to create a work of real performance art, to enlighten an open area of the computer science building at the university. Which will make it possible for Computer Science students to get a glimpse of a piece of computer history? The experimental study was a success, thus we found that the suggested casing idea was a viable option. |
