Paper Abstract:      Learning in situations is helpful for students, especially for “English as a Foreign Language” (EFL) learning. The research proposed a listening and speaking practice system with PDA. The system attempted to help the EFL students for English learning in familiar situations such as lunch at school. The results showed the proposed system and designed activities help EFL elementary school students have the opportunities of listening and speaking practice in vocabulary and simple sentences with the support of familiar situated learning. By providing recommended sample voices recorded by peers, students in the experimental group could repeatedly listen to them in familiar situations and obtain more opportunities of practices and interactions with peers later. The other finding was that the number of peers used to practice speaking English in daily contexts, defined as practice diversity, was significantly correlated to learning improvement. That is, the more peers that students practiced speaking English with in familiar contexts; the greater learning improvement was obtained. After interviews with students, an interesting phenomenon was found; students in the experimental group extended their learning from school to home. The students’ learning was not only a deliberate event or situation, but learning took place spontaneously in their daily lives.
