Paper Abstract:      The use of electronic death certificate is a worldwide emerging issue. In Portugal, since 2014, all death certificates are issued electronically, thanks to existence of the system called SICO (Sistema de Informação dos Certificados de Óbito). With this, the Portuguese Ministry of Health became a pioneer in the electronic death certificate area with the launch of an information system for this type of records. It is well known that the information and communication technology (ICT) in health are quickly developing. Taking into account the evolution of technology, new tendencies and needs, it was necessary to expand the options given to doctors to use the system. This was the driver to further innovate and create the mobile e-death certificate. With this pioneering project, we intend to address the issue of electronic certification through a solution architecture that is close to the needs of users. Afterwards the study of the Portuguese mobile device market share, the defining of the strategy of aim for, in the first instance, limit users of SICO and all the necessary development, we obtained a mobile app that allow the issue of death certificates. In order to validate the app, a Beta phase took place before it was made available to the iOS and Android’s stores. Nowadays, a physician can issue death certifications in Portugal from a mobile app called SICO Mobile. This new app, which already counts with 121 downloads, provides greater convenience and mobility to physicians. With this, death certificates with better accuracy and quality of data are achieved. New features are already being prepared with the objective of improving even more its usability, the physicians’ convenience and the data’s quality.
