Paper Abstract:      This paper reports our experiences in integrating community service into learning activities in a computer science program, under the iLearn umbrella project. It has a three-fold purpose: to make information technology education more relevant to the needs of the society, to educate students to be more civic-minded, and to leverage the resources of the university in building the e-society. It includes small-size community service-based student projects in regular teaching subjects, medium-size student projects in collaboration with external organizations, both as part of the regular curriculum and as extra-curricular activities, and tutoring of secondary and primary students in information technology workshops. Results so far indicated that our students benefit significantly in technical and all-rounded education. However, the impact on their interests in community service is mixed, and seems to depend on the type of service rendered.
