Paper Abstract:      The results reported here are from a preliminary analysis of work in progress to investigate the use of visual feedback about one’s own hand for motor control in virtual environments, and how that use changes as a function of age. Subjects from four age groups performed a reach to grasp task in a desktop virtual environment. Results indicate that older adults are not sensitive to visual feedback of their hand for reaching or grasping. Further, an augmentation effect was noted with regard to grasp aperture across all age groups. Research questions for future doctoral work are discussed.
