Paper Abstract:      A patient can visit numerous hospitals or clinics in his lifetime, which therefore disseminates his medical data among multiple Hospital Information Systems (HIS) in the form of Electronic Health Record (EHR), managed by each hospital independently. The integrated Personal Health Records (PHR) can be kept on portable equipment such as USB or mobile device, and can be retained with the patient as he moves from one HIS to another. The backup of the PHR can be maintained on the cloud for refurbishing PHR in case of theft or remote access. The proposed system, maintains backup of the PHR consisting of references to each HIS and not entire data, for security reasons. In case of theft or remote access to PHR, a distributed health record management system queries individual HISs for clinical data of a particular patient and then can integrate all the responses together in standardized way to generate the aggregated health record. The responses received from different HIS may be in different formats, so the system translates all responses into a common format such as HL7 format, that represents the integrated PHR of the patient. The backup of records can be stored on distributed file system such as Hadoop in an encrypted form using Attribute Based Encryption (ABE) for fine grained access control. We observe that sequence files can provide reduced access time, highly reliable and available system.
