Paper Abstract:      In this paper, we describe an approach for scheduling workflows on a computational grid based on job criticality. The main objectives of the suggested approach is to aim at reducing the overall elapsed time of a workflow after the same has been admitted for execution on a grid and to reduce the total execution time of multiple workflows. We have introduced the notion of user-defined and derived variables to help compute the criticality of jobs in a workflow. Further, we use the standard workflow patterns in carrying out criticality analysis of a workflow at different levels. Our initial simulation results indicate that the workflow-based scheduling aids in a faster completion of workflows leading to increased grid throughput.
