Paper Abstract:      The development of web and digital technology brings great changes to TV environment. However, basic user interface for TV still remains with ‘remote control’. When TV was one-way communication media with limited channels and functionality, TV interface with remote control provided just enough user experience. Since TV contents have been extended drastically, two-way communication services based on internet network have been introduced and furthermore TV is considered as a hub for home network, user behavior of TV have been changed as well. As one-way communication media, TV needed minimal user interface for channel flipping and volume control but as new functionalities are added and media integration has been explored, TV requires active user interaction for content browsing/searching and many other interactive services. However user environment for TV is different from other screen-based devices in many ways, most current TV interfaces are developed based on PC interfaces. The purpose of this research is to propose a possibility of new interface for TV as a hub of home network by extracting interface elements of other input devices. In this research, we reviewed remote controllers for other media and identified key interface issues of the devices. And the usage scenarios of TV as a hub for home-network are reviewed and categorized by user behavior types.
