Paper Abstract:      The present paper proposes a stereo algorithm detecting a disparity map from a pair of stereo images. The stereo algorithm solves the stereo correspondence problem with multiple reaction-diffusion systems, each of which consists of a pair of partial differential equations with activator and inhibitor variables. The inhibitor variable diffuses more rapidly than the activator variable. In addition, the inhibitory diffusion coefficient is anisotropic and is set to be quite large around depth discontinuity areas, which are evaluated from an initially detected stereo disparity distribution as well as an intensity edge distribution. The large inhibitory diffusion highly improves a stereo disparity map around depth discontinuity areas. We confirm performance of the proposed algorithm around depth discontinuity areas for several stereo image pairs, in comparison to previous reaction-diffusion stereo algorithms.
