Paper Abstract:      There is little doubt that the internet and mobile technologies have changed completely the present and future of educational and training experiences for baby boomers and the alphabet soup of gen x’s, y’s and whatever is to come. The shift to e- and m- learning has been driven by issues such as: the ability to make money in accessing a global market; access to education for busy people who want to be busier; and a fascination with the new technologies and what they can do. While the shift to these new modes of education and training has been rapid, consideration of the pedagogical (and hence educational design) issues have not kept pace. In fact, the opportunities provided by the internet and mobile technology have not nearly been realised. This paper presents a recent conceptualisation of learning (heutagogy) grounded in Complexity Theory and outlines some general principles for enhancing learning in an e-learning environment.
