Paper Abstract:      In this paper, we propose practical file-name covert channels to secure data and to hide the communication itself on the web. Practical covert channels intend to exploit information hiding to enhance security rather than to violate it. File-name covert channels here proposed encrypt and compress by exploiting a compress-and-encrypt algorithm, summarized in the paper. They are scalable with respect to the Internet transfer protocols, have a potentially high information rate and a low technological cost. Their security is discussed for what concerns their detectability on the web and their resilience to the ciphertext attack which is investigated at a general setting.
