Paper Abstract:      In this paper we explore the interplay between organisational identity and information systems (IS). More specifically, we wish to further our understanding of the role that organisational identity plays in the appropriation of IS by organisations, as well as of the way in which IS may shape the enactment of established identities. We report on findings from multiple case studies that follow the introduction of new collaborative 3D modelling technologies into the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. We investigate the manner in which existing identities influence organisational decisions to adopt, implement and use new IS. Additionally, we look at the way in which new IS lead to changes in organisational practices, interactions and identities. We contribute to the scarce research on the coconstruction of IS and identity and emphasise the relational and dynamic nature of identity.
