Paper Abstract:      In thin client computing, applications are executed on a server instead of on the user’s device. This way, it offers a solution to the vulnerability of desktops to viruses, Trojan horses and worms. It also releases the user from regular software and hardware updates. Another advantage of thin client computing is the reduction of battery consumption on the user’s mobile device, since applications are executed on a server and not on the user’s device. One of the major barriers for the proliferation of thin clients in public wide-area networks is the hampering presentation of interactive multimedia applications. In this paper, a multi-provider platform is presented in which all kinds of applications can be delivered to the user’s thin client device. The key problem addressed in this paper is the capture of graphical output on the server and the fluent delivery of the images to the user. Several approaches are compared and measurement results are presented.
