Paper Abstract:      Mobile television is well suited for interactivity, and many mobile phones with DVB-H are equipped with hardware and software to interact in real-time with the service provider. We have developed and will demonstrate an interactive quiz game targeted to mobile users. The game is broadcasted to the mobile phone through the mobile TV network. Our game prototype uses the mobile phone’s in-built interactivity client based on the OMA-BCAST standard. We find, however, that this is not well suited for fast-changing games with repeated interactions because of synchronization issues with the game provider and also because the user interaction on the particular phone we used is cumbersome and unintuitive. Until better standards for interactivity over broadcast TV are available, special-purpose quiz game clients are needed for widespread popularity of quiz gaming targeted to the mobile user.
