Paper Abstract:      This short paper describes a small-scale project (currently in its early stages) being undertaken at a UK university, which is investigating students’ ownership and usage of, and attitudes towards, mobile devices. It is hoped that a better understanding of these issues will generate a more precise alignment of m-learning activities with the students preexisting ownership, usage and knowledge of mobile devices. Analysis of and reflection on the results of the study will be done within the context of Wenger’s Communities of Practice.
