Paper Abstract:      Evaluations of educational settings typically collect data before, during and after the learning process. But they take time, may influence the students and cannot be done continuously. This problem becomes increasingly difficult when education is moved out of schoolrooms and becomes independent of timetables by applying e-learning methods. Therefore a more frequent and autonomous recording would be preferable. In this paper we present results based on a software evaluation method for the purpose of gaining more detailed information about the students learning process within a problem-based educational setting. The evaluated teaching material gives an introduction to exploratory data analysis using high dimensional data visualizations, provided by an interactive software. To collect data while students are working with the teaching material, a log-file stores the student’s activities. This data reflects the student’s learning process and capabilities in a high granularity while it does not disturb this process, takes no additional time and is furthermore time and location independent.
