Paper Abstract:      Web services represent an emerging technology, that provides a complete platform and environment for flexible web interaction among applications. In order to create efficient web service solutions in mobile environment it is required to address issues that affect their performance. In this paper, we have proposed a new approach which would improve the web service performance in a mobile computing environment using an optimized application design based on the existing technologies and standards. Our proposal focuses on a technique for data handling. We use single generic XML attribute within the SOAP message to represent a logical wrapper for the business data, including the service name and type. This will help to minimize the message size and memory footprint because additional XML tags that normally correspond to each attribute are removed. Another benefit is that the CPU overhead is reduced due to XML serialization since there is only one tag in all cases.
