Paper Abstract:      Prior research related to the online self-disclosure (SD) in computer mediated communication (CMC) has mostly addressed to the explanatory study within culture. In fact, there are differences between collectivistic and individualistic cultures concerning online SD. Hence, the purpose of this study is to explain the differences in regards to online SD and other psychological factors on Facebook between Indonesians, who have collectivistic culture, and Poles, who have Individualistic culture. The psychological factors which have been investigated were need for popularity (NfP), need to belong (NtB), and self-esteem (SE). We also studied the behavioural differences in connection with profile availability, online behavioural frequencies (writing on wall, commenting, and uploading), and a number of friends on Facebook. This study was based on quantitative study comparing Facebook users in Indonesia (N=346) and Poland (N=300). First, anova was performed to compare online SD and behaviour between nationalities. Second, the pearson correlation was conducted to examine (the) correlation between online SD and psychological factors (NfP, NtB, and SE) as well as profile availability in each nationality. The result indicated that Indonesian had higher mean almost in all variables unless in positive contents of SD, SE, and NtB. Furthermore, the correlational analysis showed that Indonesian and Polish have different significancy of correlation between online SD dimensions (amount, depth/intimacy, positive content) and psychological factors such as NfP, NtB, SE, and profile availability, especially on the correlational strength of: depth/intimacy of online SD in connection with NfP and profile availability; and the positive content of online SD in regard to NfP. NtB had no association with dimensions of intimacy and positive content of online SD in both countries. This finding demonstrated that SD was more associated with NfP than NtB.
