Paper Abstract:      Current mobile devices have an extensive amount of new features, one of them being the location by GPS (Global Positioning System). However, this feature suffers from the problem of indoors availability. As an alternative to this problem, this paper presents the model Here I Am, which uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology as a means of interaction with the environment and the user, thus allowing the indoor location. To develop the model, concepts of Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing, NFC Technology and Ubiquitous Location Systems were used. The model Here I Am, includes the development of a Web application, for managing the solution, and an application for the Android platform, for users’ location and navigation. We evaluated the model by developing prototype, which was evaluated in terms of four aspects: (i) usability; (ii) effectiveness; (iii) efficiency; and (iv) user satisfaction. The results were encouraging and very positive, demonstrating the interest of users in the Here I Am model.
