Paper Abstract:	We present in this paper, a new method for recognizing hand postures from images. To describe the shape of the hand , we use the XLWDOS textual description ( Larabi ,2003) which we adapt to the particularity of the hand. The textual description is improved in our method. Indeed the junction lines are replaced by junction curves, according to the particularity of articulated objects. Recognizing postures of the hand (adduction, abduction rotation or flexion –extension) is obtained after comparing the descriptors of any posture to the descriptor of the open hand. The method was tested on different postures and gives satisfactory results.
