Paper Abstract:      Application programming interfaces (APIs) provide developers with a rich interface to a wide number of online social-networks. These APIs develop a positive feedback ecosystem in which developers produce new and interesting applications to existing social-networks. As a result, numerous new APIs are constantly emerging for new and existing social-networks. These APIs are, however, rarely uniform, and often present difficulties to developers who have to learn many different APIs. This paper presents a new, abstracted API interface, which acts as an interface between developers and social-networks. This generic API is not just an API wrapper, but rather provides an abstraction of different APIs into a generic form. The paper further presents a feasibility study in which 35 developers reviewed the API, resulting in data which suggests that the API is viable, but in order to be more useful, further research needs to balance the complexity and functionality of generic social-networking APIs.
