Paper Abstract:      The goal of this doctoral study is to identify the information and communications technology (ICT) literacy level of trainee teachers in Malaysia by investigating their cognitive and technical ICT proficiency. Questionnaires will be used to identify respondents’ background and self-asses their ICT knowledge. Then, a simulative task will be use to evaluate respondents’ ICT literacy in a more ‘authentic’ ICT usage setting. It is anticipated that at the end of this study, a suitable instrument to effectively evaluate ICT literacy will be constructed. This paper will describe an overview of the proposed research topic and a preliminary conceptual framework for this doctoral study.
