Paper Abstract:      New literacies have become an important set of knowledge and skills students need to participate fully into their civic life in a global era. The optimal way of cultivating these literacy skills lies in the successful integration of ICTs (information and communication technologies) and mobile devices into content area learning. This study is an exploratory case study to examine the feasibility of integrating new literacies into science classroom instruction. Three middle school science teachers implemented a learning module designed to incorporate new literacies and science literacy components. The results suggest that ICTs and mobile devices allow students to practice new literacies and scientific literacy, facilitate their cognitive tasks, and establish a sense of inquiry community. The paper will demonstrate the process to conduct scientific inquiry activity through the integration of ICTs and mobile devices.
