Paper Abstract:      The aim of this research is to identify what are the effects in the learning experience of undergraduate students, when they are invited to create screencasts as a method of assessment. In order to do so, a set of this type of students was divided in two groups: (i) the first one was asked to deliver a screencast to present the results of a research project; and (ii) the second one was requested to write a research paper with the same purpose. The idea was to measure and compare the perceptions of effectiveness and of preference attributed to each method of presenting a research project (and of assessment also). A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, including mouse movements and audio narration. Thus, a transversal study was conducted, by the end of the first semester of 2010/2011 academic year, where the two groups of Portuguese health higher education students, in a blended learning setting, filled out a questionnaire, where they stated their perceptions about the creation of the screencast or paper. The collected data was analysed with descriptive statistics methods. The findings showed that these students preferred to be assessed by doing a screencast, than by writing a research paper. But there were no significant differences between the assessment marks of both groups.
