Paper Abstract:      Africa in general is said to be still lagging behind developed nations in terms of workforce skills, and South Africa is not an exception. This problem, it is argued, has a negative effect on enterprises and presents major hurdles to the country’s economic development objectives. Small, medium and large organizations tend to all suffer from the issue. In this context, vital enterprises to South Africa’s economy like parastatals are extremely exposed to the adverse effects of skills shortages. This paper aimed to present the findings of an investigation on skills transfer through a Learning Management system in a large South African company. In this light, a case study on the ways in which ElecKom corporate services promotes and facilitates skills transfer through its learning management system, was conducted. Following the interpretivist paradigm Activity theory was used as the underpinning theory. The paper addresses the issue of skills shortage in a South African context and how it affects parastatals, with ElecKom corporate as the case study.
