Paper Abstract:      This paper presents two different approaches to e-learning, which have been implemented in the School of Geography, University of Leeds. The first is largely characterized by the direct transfer of traditional face-to-face approaches to an e-learning environment but has evolved over time to include more dialogue and interaction. The second approach has resulted from a partnership with the UKeUniversities and the World Universities Network, where collaboration and interaction have had much greater prominence in the development of the programme from the beginning. The two approaches are contrasted from a pedagogical, technological and operational perspective. The result has been to merge best practice from both approaches into a single hybrid one that is constantly adapting to student and peer feedback and to new developments in the field of e-learning.
