Paper Abstract:      The perception is that because e-business technologies rely on communications products that the communications industry, compared with other industries, would be more advanced in its adoption and approach to e-business. This however, in the Australian context, is not the case. A survey of the top 500 Australian companies explored anticipated and identified, enablers, benefits and inhibitors of electronic business in organisations. This paper focuses on findings from the communications industry comparing it with the other sectors. The results indicate that large organizations in the communications industry in Australia are encountering similar inhibitors, can identify similar enablers and are achieving similar benefits as other sectors of the economy. The results of the survey also suggest some differences with regard to the importance of encountered inhibitors, identified enablers and achieved benefits between the communications industry and the rest of the sectors comprising the top 500 Australian companies.
