Paper Abstract:      We have developed an approach to exception management based on the model-driven development paradigm [8]. Our approach comprises of a domain engineering method (RELIANT), and an extensible exception management framework (DOVE) that supports the model-driven generation of exception handling features. The RELIANT domain engineering method provides a tailorable framework that guides the domain engineer in design and development from initial conception to implementation and deployment of reusable modules for a wide range of exception domains. This paper outlines our analysis of the exception management domain that we performed using RELIANT. In this paper, we present the domain analysis results of 10 large scale open source systems. The results include feature models and common exception usage design anti-patterns that adversely impact the reliability and maintainability of applications.
