Paper Abstract:
|
Heart-rate monitoring represents an important instrument in health and sports exercises, since the current heart-rate of a training person can be used as indicator for the demand level of on-going physical exercises. Today, the market offers a big variety of health and sports computers, which are small, wearable and usable for displaying the heart rate of a training person. Unfortunately, these devices are not really convenient during daily use, since their constructions do not follow modern UI concepts. Typical problems are, e.g., difficultly readable B+W screens with values printed in tiny letters, and sometimes, the heart rate recording is disturbed for spurious technical reasons, but despite this the results are exposed totally unfiltered. Finally, the control of staying within a certain heart frequency band for achieving a dedicated training effect has to be performed manually by the training persons themselves. Nowadays, upcoming new technologies like smart phone programming with open operating systems like Android and the RF communication standard of ANT+ for sports equipment enable a construction of improved health monitoring tools in general. In this investigation, a heart rate monitor was designed and implemented that follows modern UI concepts in terms of output display, efficient input controls and convenient automatic indication for training control. Signal conditioning and filtering improve the output quality of the measurements and prevent misguiding displays. In summary, a smart phone app was developed that allows reaching training goals of workouts in physical health or sports activities more easily. |
