Paper Abstract:      Modern automation systems are extremely diverse. Traditional multilevel distributed systems of industrial and infrastructural automation, multi-operational manufacturing equipment, instrument automation and other segments can be highlighted. Computing components of automation systems are now considered as parts of cyber-physical systems (CPS), which allowed the engineering community to make a few significant advances in design technologies, while introducing a new level of problems. To reduce design deadlines and improve the quality of increasingly complex automation systems, we consider the further development of high-level design stages of control systems as a promising trend. The paper discusses the design space domains of computing part of CPS. We identified domains where development of engineering solutions causes serious difficulties today. This problem is defined by complexity and inconsistency of technical specifications with the abundance of solutions and technologies offered on the market, which analysis and comparison are difficult. We give examples of the proposed design abstractions usage for the analysis and selection of engineering solutions at the architectural and microarchitectural level.
