Paper Abstract:      A visual computer simulator has been developed which can perform graphical explanation about internal behavior and structure of computer and equip learning facility of Assembly Programming. Our simulator can execute not only on the major browser as a Java applet but also on DOS prompt and/or Linux command interpreter as a stand-alone Java application. It can provide built-in mail service as communication facility between users by means of SMTP-based mail sender and POP3-based mail receiver written in pure Java program. With such a mail service, two users, for example, a learner and an instructor, exchange their information about visual simulator directly and take advantage of asynchronous information sharing among users. It is very useful for learners to utilize our visual simulator in a collaborative learning environment. This paper describes overview of our visual computer simulator, illustrates detail of communication support function of it, and proposes application of our simulator to Assembly Programming in a collaborative learning environment. After evidence-based demonstration, it is confirmed that there is statistical significance between students' scores and using times of built-in mail service of visual simulator.
