Paper Abstract:      With the emergence of the World Wide Web (WWW) as an electronic market, information systems researchers have argued that its usage will have a significant effect on the role of intermediaries. Some have suggested that WWW usage will lead to the elimination of traditional intermediaries whereas others have argued that a new type of intermediation will emerge to facilitate WWW-based transactions. The third possible avenue is that users will keep doing business with their traditional intermediaries through the WWW. Analysis of data collected from 136 corporate buyers from over 120 organizations show support for all three effects of WWW usage on intermediation.
