Paper Abstract:      This article presents results of a Master thesis presented at the Post-Graduation Interdisciplinary Program of Applied Linguistics at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) entitled Communication, Interaction and Speech in virtual learning environments. It intended to answer the following questions: "What are the characteristics, capabilities and limitations of the email, chat and forum tools in a virtual learning environment in a blended course?" How does interaction among the participants happen by using these tools? ". A qualitative methodological approach of a critical-collaborative action –research was adopted based on the studies by Thiollent (1994), Freitas (2003), Franco (2005) and Miranda (2006). Data were collected by means of questionnaires, interviews with teachers and observation of the learning virtual environment. The analysis focused on the moments of communication among the staff in the Online Classroom of DG Space Portal (Portal Espaço GD), considering the dialogues that take place in the email, chat and forum tools.
