Paper Abstract:      The aim of this paper is do demonstrate how problems in research projects can be overcome by using methods from different research paradigms for separate phases in the research project. This is demonstrated by means of an example research project. In this demonstration project an attempt was made to improve the success of the students in a e-based Computer literacy module. The research problem is evaluated from different ontological perspectives before a research plan is discussed. The implemented research plan combines interpretive and positivistic methods to determine success factors for students in the Computer Literacy module – in their specific context. The paper aims to demonstrate the complexities in the project and how these complexities were addressed using methods from different paradigms.
