Paper Abstract:      This paper discusses the role of cognitive theories of learning in the context of e-learning. Initially, it identifies the importance of cognitivist movement as a break from the behaviorist paradigm of animal and human learning. Subsequently, two cognitive learning theories are presented: D. Ausubels meaningful learning theory and J. Bruners active learning theory. Finally, it adresses the importance of that theories for e-learning, aiming to increase the learning process in the realm of education with technological mediation. In particular, the authors discuss the need for teaching strategies that include such elements as the learner active engagement through interaction with technological mediation, which stimulates the intentionality of the learner in the context of e-learning.
