Paper Abstract:      New pedagogical approaches are required to prepare professionals of the future. The educational model must be in conformity with the information technologies that help to improve the knowledge dissemination processes, enhance learning and decrease the limitations of time and space between teachers and students. Currently, the Institute of Exact and Applied Sciences of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (IEAS/UFOP) have many problems and difficulties on educational process like: there is not a centralized way to provide didactic resources to students; a good tool of communication between teachers and students is not available; commonly are not offered to students academic performance information for self evaluation. In this sense, this paper presents the evaluation of a VLE to support the classroom teaching on the IEAS/UFOP and investigates and argues that the usage of a virtual learning environment (VLE) can improve teaching in the following aspects: (i) availability of teaching resources; (ii) planning and following of classes; (iii) communication between teachers and students; (iv) monitoring the academic performance of students during the course; (v) collaboration between students.
