Paper Abstract:      Trust and reputation are key elements in e-commerce, and they are especially critical to such on-line auction enterprises as eBay. The eBay model of encapsulating trust and reputation in a single number based on transactions is described and then evaluated. An alternative model, characterized by a finely grained, multi-variable matrix, is proposed. The model includes data regarding the relative ranking of participants within the eBay community, the monetary value of past transactions, and a measure of the match between buyers and sellers. A hallmark of the model is its graphical embodiment in a data dashboard.
